Lord of the Rings is Next
I have always been a big fan of science fiction, fantasy, and superheroes. Some of my fondest memories growing up are watching old DC cartoons with dad, or going to see the Star Wars Prequel movies with my friends, or reading Harry Potter and one of the more disturbing parts of the last decade has been watching large corporations buy all of these fan favorite properties and “reimagine” them in a misguided futile attempt to make a quick buck. It is so disheartening to see your favorite characters and stories gutted by people who simply do not love or care about them.
What makes this especially terrible to witness is not simply the characters and stories being stripped down to their most basic element and reworked in the most unflattering and often destructive ways, it’s that if any fan should dare speak out against said destruction they are criticized and blasphemed as bigots of one from or another. And it looks like the Lord of the Rings and it’s fans are the next ones to receive this treatment.
I am not the most hard core fan of Lord of the Rings. In fact I consider myself a “normie” when it comes to the property; however, I still respect it and it’s creator greatly. Even a rube like me can apricate Tolkien’s work and his brilliance. He created a story, a whole history, heck and entire LANGUAGE that is so enduring the word “timeless” almost seems to small to describe it, but Amazon now has the rights to some of the content and the small teaser trailer they released over the Super Bowl appears to have confirmed, what everyone has suspected. They are going to trash Tolkien’s work in an attempt to make some quick cash. It will never work. All they will do is destroy the property and make people angry, but that doesn’t matter.
It’s just so sad to see.
