The Writing Boat
The first “life-boat” I want to look at I guess is my writing. One of my greatest dreams has always been to be an author and I have always enjoyed the act of writing; however, clearly there are several flaws in my current approach. The first is the timing.
I have a habit of not allotting time to write. I work best in a created environment one where I am relaxed and can listen to Gregorian Chanting, which seems to gin up the creativity and the focus. I also enjoy writing about unique ideas, concepts, and topics every day. It is critical to accept that maintaining this work will require actual commitment, focus, and dedication along with intentionally creating the environment I need in order to write, specifically by setting aside the time it takes. I don’t have to take a lot of time, but it has to be consistent and it has to be intentional.
The other limitation is the idea that this is a big deal. I need to remember to have fun with this work and enjoy it. This is not a chore, it is meant to be an expression and a fun one at that. I always feel the closest to God when I write. I have to remember that that is a key point of why I want to write more in the first place. My attitude has always been a limitation, but the key is to break things down into easy to manage steps AND, most importantly to be willing to do them. Action is the key. It doesn’t matter how good or bad the results are, because the only hope for any improvement is through action.
