God’s Side

There has been a lot of talk lately about war and the US’s ability to wage it and to be honest, our record of late has not been that stellar. It is such a hard thing to admit, that your country may no longer be the amazing super power that it once was and there is a temptation to blame a number of things for this decline. For example, we like to blame the poor leadership, the “wokeness” in the ranks of the military, or the vast disconnect between the ideology of this nation and reality, but the truth is all of these things are symptoms of the problem and not the source. The truth is we have squandered our integrity and turned our back on God.

To succeed in any war one must be on God’s side and this is achieved not by cajoling or coaxing God to support you, because in reality God does not support you, you instead support him. This is true in all walks of life, your goal should never be to get God on your side, but to get yourself on God’s side and this can only be done by living the virtues. You must follow HIS commands and HIS rules and you must pray for the strength to maintain your commitment to practicing the virtues even when it is hard. In war, where it can be so easy to lose yourself in the conflict and the greed and the bloodshed, the commitment to God is even more important than normal, because wars are not won and lost by military might alone, but by resolve. It is about the will to win that matters most.

This resolve, this inner strength comes from God and God alone and when we look at whether or not the US should involve it’s self in any war or conflict, we need to look at the reasons why we are fighting and what we are hoping to accomplish and we have to be honest with ourselves. Is it truly to protect and defend human life and encourage others to live by their divinely given rights? Do we even have all the facts to do this properly? Or… Is this all just a smokescreen to sell war to a the public and are we actually there for greed or power or to be moral busybodies. This is why the US has suffered such failure in theater of war lately. You see, not only is there so much greed and virtue signaling in our institutions, but so many people don’t even believe in God let alone wonder how to get on his side. How are we supposed to win wars against and external enemy, when the internal ones (both in the country and inside our own hearts) already have us down? The first move needs to be in restoring ourselves to God’s way of living, then the next steps will become more clear.
