Luke Skywalker’s Return
I am a big Star Wars fan and was one of the people who was not very happy with the direction that Disney took the franchise. It was sad to hear that their first move after buying Lucasfilm was to wipe out the extended universe which was essential lore, characters, and story that had been belovingly added to the cannon by fans and creators for over 30 years. I never like the Force Awakens. At the time it seemed like a rehash of A New Hope with less interesting characters and even more plot contrivances. Everything only continued to go down hill from their. As a result, I never was particularly invested in Disney Star Wars; however, there was one moment where all of that changed.
At the end of 2020 in the last few minutes of season two of the Mandalorian, Luke Skywalker showed up to save the day. Now, Luke was never my favorite Star Wars Character (that would be Obi-Wan), but his triumphant return was all that I ever really wanted to see from the Sequels. I wanted was to see Luke reach his full potential as a Jedi Master, but we never got that, nor did we get to see his the new order he established, because his character, his new school, and all of his students we senselessly slaughtered. This moment in 2020 though was different. This moment was the first time I truly felt an emotional resonance with Star Wars since Disney bought the franchise and I wasn’t the only one. Many many fans were filled with hope by this moment. It’s truly ironic, because in the Star Wars universe Luke always represented hope and now that translated into a very real for all Star Wars fans and for Disney. For the first time we all had hope for the future of Str Wars and just as soon as that hope arose it was stamped out and all of its good will was wasted. It’s actually quite amazing how fast Disney squander all that potential.
Within mere weeks of the greatest out poring of good will Disney had ever seen from the Star Wars fan base they destroyed it. They showed extreme political bias and fired a popular actress for daring to speak out and it became apparent that they were not going to do what the fans wanted with the franchise, which was to essential wipe the sequel trilogy from existence start from scratch. They did discover a new tactic, as they now know how to appeal to the emotions of a fanbase. They now know how to play to nostalgia in a cheep hollow kind of way to continue to milk attention and money from the people who made Star Wars worth it’s 4 billon dollar price tag in the first place. This is evident based on their recent actions in the Boba Fett Show.
The whole reason I bring this up is to point out how people are only capable of creating what they are. You can’t get blood from a stone. You can’t get milk from a cloud. And you can’t get quality or respect from a corporation like Disney. The people who work their simply lack the capacity for it and have to rely on a cheap substitute of emotional manipulation. They know the cords to pull, but they can’t make music. It is such a shame too. They could have done so much good for the franchise and fans would have happily have given them all the money they could ever want, but that is not going to happen.
